EGFR Antibodies

Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) is a receptor tyrosine kinase with a molecular weight of approximately 170 kDa. It is expressed on the cell surface of various cell types, including epithelial cells. It is activated by binding its ligands, such as epidermal growth factor (EGF), which activates intracellular signaling pathways involved in cell survival and proliferation. It is particularly abundant in tissues that undergo rapid cell division and regeneration.

EGFR protein expression levels have been associated with several types of cancer, including lung, colorectal, breast, and head and neck cancers. Indeed, mutations or overexpressions can lead to uncontrolled cell growth and contribute to the development and progression of cancer.

Antibodies that block EGFR activity are used to treat certain cancers to inhibit tumor growth. Additionally, these antibodies are often employed for diagnostic and prognostic purposes in cancer. Testing for it also identifies patients who may benefit from EGFR-targeted therapies.
