Applications & Dilutions

Applications Tested Dillution Protocol Note
Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
30 min at RT. Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10mM Tris with 1mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes

Natriuretic peptides comprise a family of three structurally related molecules: atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP). ANP and BNP act mainly as cardiac hormones, produced primarily by the atrium and ventricle, respectively, while the gene encoding C-type natriuretic peptide is expressed mainly in the brain. These peptides possess potent natriuretic, diuretic and vasodilating activities and are implicated in body fluid homeostasis and blood pressure control. ANP, BNP and CNP are highly homologous within the 17-residue ring structure formed by an intramolecular disulfide linkage. The genes which encode for ANP and BNP map to human chromosome 1p36.22. The gene which encodes for CNP maps to human chromosome 2q37.1.

Additional Information

Mol. Weight of Antigen
25-36kDa (glycosylated BNP precursor); 12kDa (deglycosylated mature BNP)

  • Cardiac hormone that plays a key role in mediating cardio-renal homeostasis (PubMed:9458824, PubMed:1672777, PubMed:1914098, PubMed:17372040). May also function as a paracrine antifibrotic factor in the heart (By similarity). Acts by specifically binding and stimulating NPR1 to produce cGMP, which in turn activates effector proteins that drive various biological responses (PubMed:9458824, PubMed:1672777, PubMed:17372040, PubMed:21098034, PubMed:17349887, PubMed:25339504). Involved in regulating the extracellular fluid volume and maintaining the fluid-electrolyte balance through natriuresis, diuresis, vasorelaxation, and inhibition of renin and aldosterone secretion (PubMed:9458824, PubMed:1914098). Binds the clearance receptor NPR3 (PubMed:16870210).
  • May affect cardio-renal homeostasis (PubMed:17372040). Able to promote the production of cGMP although its potency is very low compared to brain natriuretic peptide 32 (PubMed:17372040).
  • May have a role in cardio-renal homeostasis (PubMed:17372040). Able to promote the production of cGMP (PubMed:17372040).
