Crystallin Alpha B [CPTC-CRYAB-1]

Crystallins are the major proteins of the vertebrate eye lens, where they maintain the transparency and refractive index of the lens. Crystallins are divided into B-crystallin is associated with many neurological diseases, and a missense mutation in this gene has co-segregated in a family with a Desmin-related myopathy.

Additional Information

Human Gene Symbol
Chromosome Location
Mol. Weight of Antigen
Predicted: 20kDa; Observed: 22-30kDa

  • May contribute to the transparency and refractive index of the lens. Has chaperone-like activity, preventing aggregation of various proteins under a wide range of stress conditions. In lens epithelial cells, stabilizes the ATP6V1A protein, preventing its degradation by the proteasome (By similarity).

Known Applications & Suggested Dilutions

  • Western Blot (1-2ug/ml)
  • Immunohistochemistry (Formalin-fixed) (1-2ug/ml for 30 min at RT)(Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10mM Tris with 1mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95&degC followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes)
  • Optimal dilution for a specific application should be determined.
